hi what's up i write music

a lot of this stuff was made in beepbox and jummbox. the oldest stuff is me figuring out how to write songs so it is pretty rough. but i'm putting it here anyway

2025

finished 01-08-2025 in cakewalk. i put this one up on youtube. i was going for a chiptune rock sort of thing, still not totally happy with the mixing of it all but i will have to experiment with it i guess

2024

finished 06-20-2024 in jummbox. i made this for something a friend was working on, i don't think he ever put it online but it was a sort of flappy bird game, which doesn't actually have music to take inspiration from, so i tried to go for something like nyan cat but slower because those are in the same category in my mind. it's for a game so it's designed to loop well

finished 05-18-2024 in jummbox. i posted this to youtube as a halloween video and it is pretty spooky sounding i guess. i went into it trying to figure out how to make cool guitar tones in the limited options jummbox gives you and i got sort of a surf guitar, and surf guitar makes me think of halloween music (probably because of the munsters, even though i'm so much more an addams family fan) so i just ran with it and added a theramin and harpsichord and whatnot. you know, the halloween instruments. it was a fun one to work on

finished 04-18-2024 in jummbox. this one was just an attempt to write a los campesinos song, with the weird guitars and glockenspiel (though i think i used a present "music box" sound instead), i really like that band and i was always trying to get good guitar sounds out of jummbox and then getting annoyed. i think it workds well enough with this kind of sound though, i'm happy with how this one turned out

finished 01-18-2024 in pro tools. i made this for a friend who streams on twitch (pheeabee, go check her out) to play before her streams. this one was a lot of fun, not thrilled with how i mixed it but i did not get that into pro tools (got a free subscribtion for a while when i was taking this free class on audio tech, i don't think i was suppossed to use it for things outside of the class so nobody tell them. i didn't like pro tools anyway though, it's a pain to run on windows). it's always fun making songs for other people, especially when they also know music and can talk about what they want really well

2023

finished 12-15-2023 in pro tools. this is the final project for this free course i was taking on audio stuff, it's a minute exactly because of rules and stuff, i would have gone back to extend it at some point but i no longer have the project files or anything. looking back this sounds a lot like that song from sonic mania but i didn't do that on purpose, i just liked the piano and chiptune sound

finished 05-21-2023 in waveform. this is a song i made to test out waveform as a daw, and i kinda ended up hating it, it was really glitchy for me and didn't work with like half my plugins. to be fair my old computer was pretty bad so i'm sure that contributed to it being hard to run, but still it was not an enjoyable experience even for freeware, so i did not stick with it long. this was also a chiptune rock song, i believe all the non 8-bit sounds are from the free LABS sound pack? and the chip stuff is magical8bit just like toby fox uses, cause if it wasn't obvious who was the main inspiration at this point (and still? maybe?) it wass toby fox

finished 03-19-2023 in jummbox. i wrote this with the idea that it could be background music if i ever did videos where i talked, because it was kinda slow and didn't pull a ton of focus. that's also why i designed it to loop, the song itself actually loops once in the file, not sure why i did that since it's seamless anyway but oh well

2022

finished 09-19-2022 in jummbox. this was the first one i liked so much i posted it on my youtube channel (as a 100 subscriber special? wow look how far i've come) it's pretty simple, and it even has a cheap key change at the end because i had just figured out how to do that in jummbox with the mod tool, but i still like it honestly, it's nice

finished 08-20-2022 in jummbox. this one was different because i tried to do something slow and simple, no frills. i also put this one on youtube but way later than i wrote it. i actually think this one is really nice but i am not a fan of the triangle synth now, i think it sounds tinny and weird. i hadn't quite figured out what it was good for yet (bass, maybe a lead occasionally, definitely not chords). maybe i'll rework it now that i get this kind of thing better

finished 08-12-2022 in jummbox. i liked this one because i went with something in 3/4 time which was different. i also like how i made use of the arpeggiated chords jummbox does, i would go on to use that for texture a lot in different songs.

finished 07-25-2022 in jummbox. i actually wrote the little ending section of this first, and then built a song around what would lead up to it. the ending is still the part i like best, i think the song itself is a little slow for my taste now :/ but it's still alright

finished 07-09-2022 in jummbox. ah this was the stage where i would learn one concept and go "okay song time," i think this was the first of those i liked enough to save? this one was from 8 bit music theory's video on roselina's observatory, with the appoggiatura and all that, it kinda blew my mind at the time so you can hear that all over this thing. i guess i do still go nuts over watching "five weird chord tricks you NEED to put in your next song" videos but i like to think it's not as much anymore haha. anyway i wrote a bunch of little things before this point but this was the first one i expanded out into anything actual
